Snoring Surgery

Creating unpleasant sounds during sleeping is called snoring. It is caused due to vibration of tissues in the respiratory system that occurs by obstruction in the air movement while sleeping. There are many persons who consider snoring surgery as barbaric and risky solution besides being expensive procedure. According to them snoring surgery is not designed for common man; it is only used in the most extreme cases. While it is a matter of debate whether snoring surgery is good or bad, there are lots of people who consider it a most beneficial method of getting rid of snoring quickly without any risk. There are products like throat and nasal sprays and pillows that sense when someone is snoring. When a person is unable to get rid of the problem using over-the-counter products, he seeks answer to the problem in snoring surgery.

Following are some of the various surgical procedures that help stop snoring and other sleep related problems: CAUP (Cautery-assisted Uvulopalatoplasty) surgery is a very effective, less painful and easy method of curing snoring where heated electrode or a wire is used to burn parts of the uvula. LAUP (Laser-assisted Uvulopalatoplasty) is another surgical method of curing snoring that is relatively less expensive. There is another method of surgery - UPPP which is laser assisted Uvulopalatoplasty. Laser is used in this method. Local anesthetia is given and parts of uvula and soft palate are shortened with the help of laser. The rate of success under this method is not perfect; only 55% of the patients treated through this method show satisfactory results.
